| June 2026
With formal support from traditional Wixárika authorities, the Consejo del Patrimonio Cultural Originario (Council for Native Cultural Heritage), announces that it has presented a legal demand to Mexico's INDAUTOR (entity in charge of copyrights) for the cultural appropriation carried out by Mexican artist, César Menchaca and his company, Menchaca Studio. For well over a decade Menchaca has created giant beaded figures displaying sacred symbols in Wixarika culture. These works, featured in Dubai, Las Vegas and Mexico City were created through contracting Wixarika artisans.
