Activist Paulina Gómez Palacio Escudero, guardian of Wirikuta territory, assassinated

On March 19, in Matehuala, San Luis Potosí, 50-year-old Paulina Gómez Palacio Escudero was reported missing and on March 22, the Attorney General of Zacatecas confirmed that she was located in the municipality of El Salvador the body of a woman from the neighboring state of San Luis Potosí.

It should be noted that on Saturday, March 21, police from that Clavelillas, Zacatecas, reported the location of an abandoned vehicle that turned out to be that of the victim, and in the vicinity of the vehicle they managed to arrest a suspect in this femicide, which is now as a detainee and in custody in a Saltillo hospital.

Paulina's death was due to a wound from a penetrating firearm projectile in the face, the autopsy showed that the death could have occurred between 48 and 72 hours before the discovery.

Colleagues, friends and family of the murdered defender, said that "she was a friend, guardian of the sacred territory of Wirikuta and friend of the Wixárika people," and they demand justice for Paulina.
