Offerings at Tatei Haramara

Offerings at Haramaratsié-Juan Negrín 1977

Photograph of offerings on the shore of Tatei Haramara in the town of San Blas, Nayarit, on the Pacific Ocean. In the image there are several important elements of a traditional offering: two small nierikate yarn paintings depicting key elements of Wixarika spirituality like the deer and the sun; a muwieri or sacred  feathered wand; and a cup with copal and ashes. Haramaratsié or Tateik Haramara is one of five key pilgrimage sites for the Wixarika people. Juan Negrín took this photograph while accompanying his compadre Yauxali, Pablo Taizán, on one of many pilgrimages together during the 1970s.
