Carrillera--Belt with small pouches
Here we see an example of the carrillera, a series of small embroidered or woven bags sewn together to form a belt worn by Wixárika men. The carrillera is worn in addition to the woven wool or cotton belt that is wound several times around the waist. This example is embroidered using the two point ‘punto de oro’ diagonal stitch. The embroidery was done on fine muslin that was once produced by the textile factory in Bella Vista on the outskirts of Tepic, Nayarit.
