This shoulder bag (kutsuri in Wixárika) is a very fine example of the diagonal embroidery stitch. This kutsuri was made using the smallest stitch possible (two point) known as punto de oro. The bag is made from cotton muslin, known as manta de primera, which was once produced in the historic mill in Bella Vista on the outskirts of Tepic, Nayarit. This kutsuri was embroidered using cotton, aniline dyed threads. We estimate it was made in the early to mid 1960s as it was already used when it was purchased by Juan and Yvonne Negrín in 1971.
