The Birth of Tamatsí Wawatsari

This painting is a representation of the birth of Tamatsí Wawatsari, Our Elder of the Great Antlers, who also is a representation of the kieri, a sacred plant identified in the solanaceae family. The artist, Guadalupe González Ríos, held religious observance to the kieri and a such, to Tamatsí Wawatsari. This work is part of a series of yarn paintings created by the artist, measuring 1.22 by 1.22 meters, that represented the birth or origin of various ancestors or deities. 

This painting was originally collected by Juan and Yvonne Negrín but for decades has belonged to and been loved by Pamela and Eric Johnson in California.
