Mario de la Cruz Carrillo

Mario de la Cruz Carrillo is a native of  Arroyo de Cañaveral, a small community in the Municipality of Nayar in the state of Nayarit. He graduated with a degree in mathematics from the Autonomous University of Nayarit in the Spring of 2023. Mario is very interested in working toward the creation of a curricular mathematics program that can better engage Wixarika youth utilizing innovative pedagogical practices so that students may find both enjoyment and relevance in the subject. He is now completing a teaching internship in the community of Santa Teresa in the Sierra of Nayar. He received a scholarship from the Wixarika Research Center in the Fall of 2022 and has participated in two gatherings with our foundation. In April 2023, Mario attended participatory workshops for the construction of a agroecology curricular plan for the Universidad de la Tierra that is being built in the Coca Indigenous community of Mezcala, Jalisco. He then also attended the Wixarika Research Center's third summer agroecology gathering in Wirikuta, San Luis Potosí where he participated in hands-on and co-design workshops for mid and longterm initiatives in this same region.
