Brown and white kutsuri or shoulder bag

Natural brown and white wool, woven shoulder bag. Photographed by Paco Link

This shoulder bag, called kutsuri in Wixárika, was made using finely spun brown and white wool and was woven on the traditional back-strap loom. The design is of the traditional eight point star often seen in Wixárika weaving and embroidery.

Although the bag was acquired in 1974 by Juan and Yvonne Negrín, it was not a new item and it's actual date of creation and the identity of the weaver are unknown.
