Sacred Art will highlight works that serve a religious purpose, be it personal or on a communal level. You will see examples of temples, shrines, stone disks, and various types of offerings made by the Wixarika people The four nierikate shown here were left as offerings at Te'ekata, the ceremonial center of the ancestors deep in the canyons of the Western Sierra Madre of Jalisco. As can be seen in this example, the nierika was the inspiration for modern day yarn paintings.
