Embroidered Shoulder Bag - Kutsuri

Embroidered shoulder bag - Photograph ©Yvonne Negrín 2003 - 2018

This embroidered bag (kutsuri in Wixárika) is made from manta de primera from the historic mill in Bella Vista on the outskirts of Tepic, Nayarit and cotton thread colored with aniline dyes. It uses the two point cross-stitch known as punto de oro, and the pattern represents the peyote cactus (hikuri in Wixárika). The pom poms are made from aniline dyed wool. This bag was made in 1977 for Juan Negrín by Xitaima Lemo.
