Girl's embroidered skirt - Photograph ©Yvonne Negrín

This young girl's skirt is embroidered using the cross-stitch on cotton muslin cloth, embroidered with aniline dyed embroidery thread, and trimmed in red cotton cloth. The motifs are the Wixárika eight point star, cattle with peyote motifs, and birds. As with the embroidered blouse, it is more common today for women to wear skirts made from brightly colored cotton or cotton blend fabrics which they trim in a contrasting color.
